About

Ginseng is a representative Korean health food that helps restore vitality and boost immunity. In October—when ginseng is at its most nutritious—the Punggi Ginseng Festival comes alive in Yeongju, one of Korea’s premier ginseng-producing regions. True to its theme of ginseng—a symbol of health—the festival focuses on health-related exhibits and hands-on activities that everyone, regardless of age or gender, can enjoy. Special programs include the Gaesamteo Traditional Ritual, a reenactment of County Magistrate Ju Se-bung’s procession, and the Grand Ginseng Ritual. Visitors can sample ginseng dishes made with nutrient-rich Punggi ginseng and participate in fun hands-on activities related to Punggi ginseng, such as ginseng peeling. Additionally, fresh ginseng, red ginseng, and ginseng-based processed foods—all carefully harvested by local ginseng farmers—are available for purchase at affordable prices.
