About
Traditional cultural events, such as the Namsan Beacon Ceremony, are initiatives organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government that recreate communication methods from the Joseon Dynasty to introduce citizens and domestic and international tourists to Korea’s unique traditional culture and provide opportunities to experience it. During the Joseon Dynasty, the Namsan Beacon Tower served as a vital communication hub, where beacons from signal towers across the country were ultimately gathered and relayed to the capital city. Visitors can watch the Namsan Beacon Ceremony at the Namsan Beacon Tower and listen to historical commentary. Additionally, the Boshingak Citizens’ Regular Bell-Ring Ceremony, held daily at noon, is a participatory event that brings together citizens and tourists. At the Octagonal Pavilion Plaza in Seoul Namsan Tower, you can watch Samulnori performances and traditional martial arts demonstrations. In addition, hands-on programs such as the “One-Day Watchtower Guard Experience” and the “One-Day Beacon Messenger Experience” are also available.
