Yangyang Salmon Festival

The Yangyang Matsutake and Salmon Festival is a premier fall festival held amid the pristine natural surroundings of Yangyang—where mountains, the sea, and the Namdae River converge—offering visitors the chance to experience both the wonders of nature and the joys of fine dining. The festival is designed to allow visitors to experience nature in a friendly and fun way through a variety of unique activities, going beyond simply tasting matsutake mushrooms from the deep mountains and salmon returning to the Namdae River. The festival’s signature programs include the “Matsutake Treasure Hunt,” where visitors search for matsutake mushrooms in a pine forest, and “Catching Salmon with Bare Hands,” where participants catch vigorous salmon with their bare hands in the Namdae River—both offering visitors thrilling experiences unique to Yangyang. In addition, the festival is packed with diverse activities—such as the “Yangyang Salmon Ecology Tour,” where visitors learn about the salmon’s migratory journey with a docent; the “Matsutake and Salmon Cooking Show,” where chefs demonstrate recipes right before your eyes; and the “Matsutake-Infused Liquor Making” workshop—ensuring that everyone from children to adults can enjoy a unique and memorable experience. There is also an abundance of participatory events and local content. These include the “Expedition Team and Salmon Roe Gacha Zone,” where participants complete missions to receive gifts; the “Stamp Tour,” in which participants complete a poster by collecting six stamps; “Custom T-Shirt Making,” available upon presentation of a receipt; and the “Snack Collage Workshop” for children all add to the festival’s fun. Additionally, visitors can discover high-quality local specialties at reasonable prices through local pop-up stores, direct sales markets for regional products, and the “Songi Master Auction Show,” with items starting at 1,000 won. The rest area within the event grounds is combined with a fresh food market, serving as a relaxation space where visitors can enjoy “"Yangyang: A Slow Dining Experience," amidst the atmospheric night views created by the Light Tanks.
