Mungyeong Ga-eun Mother-of-Pearl Market Festival

The “Ga-eun Ajagye Market Festival” will be held for three days, from Friday, October 2, to Sunday, October 4, in the Ga-eun-eup area of Mungyeong City. Building on the warm, cozy atmosphere of the Ga-eun Ajagye Market, this intergenerational festival offers food, hands-on activities, performances, and exhibitions all in one place. On Friday, October 2—the eve of the festival—the “Miss Trot 4 Gala Show” will take place, and on Saturday, October 3, singers representing the 80s and 90s will perform in the “Time Capsule Concert.” On the final day, Sunday, October 4, the “Kids’ Big Show” will be held for children and families, filling the day with activities the whole family can enjoy together. In particular, to revitalize the local economy, this festival features a receipt-based event in partnership with nearby businesses, allowing visitors to sample dishes prepared by famous chefs using Mungyeong medicinal stone-raised pork. Additionally, the “Ga-eun Coal Mine History Photo Exhibition” will be held to reflect on the history of Ga-eun’s coal mines, which played a major role in Korea’s coal industry. Through photographs depicting miners at work and daily life in coal mining villages, visitors can vividly experience the important history that underpinned Korea’s industrialization and economic growth.
