About

The Semiwon Water Lily Festival is a premier autumn garden festival held at Semiwon, located in Yangpyeong County, Gyeonggi Province. Semiwon is a garden of water and flowers surrounded on three sides by Lake Paldang; it is Gyeonggi Province’s first designated local garden, featuring traditional East Asian garden architecture and a diverse collection of aquatic plants. The Water Lily Culture Festival centers on the water lily, Semiwon’s signature aquatic plant, and offers unique autumn garden attractions. It showcases a distinctive garden landscape featuring a diverse array of water lilies and aquatic plants, including the Victoria water lily—known as the “Queen of Flowers”—as well as exotic Australian water lilies and colorful tropical varieties. Visitors can admire the beauty of water lilies blooming on the water’s surface and enjoy a leisurely respite in the heart of the city. In particular, as the host site for the 2026 Gyeonggi Garden Culture Expo, the garden is set to showcase even richer garden culture content. The Semiwon area is steeped in the history of Baedari, associated with Jeong Yak-yong, a scholar of the Practical Learning movement during the late Joseon Dynasty. Equipped with various facilities—including the Lotus Museum, the Jangdokdae Fountain, Sehanjeong Pavilion, and Baedari—it serves as a multifunctional cultural space where nature, ecology, and the arts converge, as well as a year-round garden tourist destination.
