About
Since ancient times, our ancestors have performed rituals at famous mountains, major rivers, and the sea to pray for the peace and well-being of the nation and their local communities and to seek blessings. As for the sea, during the Joseon Dynasty, rituals were held in places such as Incheon, Suncheon, and Gangneung; among these, the Incheon Provincial Office performed a ritual to the deity of the West Sea at Wondo (Nakseom). The Incheon Wondo-sa Ritual refers to the rites held in the spring and fall at the Wondo-sa shrine—established on Wondo Island during the Joseon Dynasty—where the local magistrate of Incheon, acting on behalf of the king, gathered the spirit tablets of various islands to perform the ceremony. The 2026 Incheon Wondo-sa Ritual & Nakseom Festival is a festival held in Michuhol District that combines a reenactment of the ritual with a village festival featuring a parade promoting harmony.
