About
The 6th Busan Comprehensive Folk Arts Festival is a traditional cultural festival hosted by the Busan Metropolitan City that showcases Busan’s intangible cultural heritage and traditional folk culture through performances and hands-on experiences. The event will be held from October 24 to 25, 2026, at Dasom Plaza in Busan Citizens’ Park for Busan residents and tourists. The festival consists of three main areas: the “Pungryu Madang” (Performance Plaza), focused on performances; the “Somssi Madang” (Crafts Plaza), focused on hands-on experiences; and the “Janjchi Madang” (Celebration Plaza), focused on participatory programs. The “Pungryu Madang” is a space featuring the opening ceremony, performances of Busan’s and other regions’ intangible cultural heritage, performances by heritage transmission schools, international performances, special performances, and citizen participation programs. The “Somssi Madang” is a space offering hands-on experiences with intangible cultural heritage related to skills and performing arts, traditional craft-making, traditional food tasting, and cultural heritage preservation. The “Festival Plaza” features a traditional games experience zone, the Busan Intangible Cultural Heritage Art Fair, a traditional crafts market linked to Hanbok Culture Week, a stamp tour and wish-note writing, as well as hanbok rentals and traditional jewelry workshops. This festival is designed to allow visitors to experience Busan’s intangible heritage and traditional culture through performances and participatory activities.
Program
1. Pungryu Madang - Opening ceremony; performances of intangible cultural heritage from Busan and other regions; performances by traditional arts schools; international performances; special performances; and citizen participation programs - Children’s Civil Service Examination, Busan Nongak, Philippine traditional dance performances, “The Man Who Lives with the King × Traditional Games,” fusion traditional music “Baekui,” Donghae Coast Byeolsin Gut, Daegu Nalmoe Drum Dance, Dongnae Jisimbapgi, and more - Intangible Heritage Workshops, Suyeong Jisinbapgi, Busan Nongak by Chilam Elementary School, Saha Banga Sori, Tightrope Walking, Busan Arts High School Traditional Music Ensemble, Folk Hat Sports Day, and Dadaepo Huri Sori, among others 2. Craft Fair - Hands-on experiences with intangible cultural heritage skills and performing arts, led by masters from Busan and other regions, as well as traditional cultural activities - Making embroidered phone grips, traditional spinning wheel experience, making traditional flower-patterned shoes, decorating traditional fans, making traditional kites, making wooden keychains, making Daegu Daegojang rattle drums, making traditional Changwon knotwork bracelets and necklaces, etc. - Dongnae Hakchum costume try-on, Suyeong Nongcheongnori musical instrument experience, Gudeok Mangkkesori performance and photo zone, Dadaepo Huri-sori anchovy fishing experience, along with making traditional mother-of-pearl hand mirrors, evil-warding doorbells, Jangmyeong-ru, good luck pouches, norigae, blue paper lanterns, Gaori kites, traditional masks, and making identity tags and official passes, etc. 3. Festival Grounds - Traditional palanquin, sword, rope-skipping, cane-whipping, four-cornered board game, arrow-throwing, traditional tug-of-war, iron ring toss, hoop rolling, and spinning the “buna” (traditional top), etc. - The Busan Intangible Heritage Art Fair, showcasing Busan’s intangible heritage cultural products; a traditional and craft market in conjunction with Hanbok Culture Week; a stamp tour and wish-writing activity; hanbok rentals and hands-on experiences with traditional accessories such as hairpins, hair ribbons, and traditional hats; and participatory programs featuring the Bumi and Sumi characters, etc.
