About
Set against the backdrop of the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Suwon Hwaseong Media Art Festival—which has been held since 2021—concluded its 2021–2025 season, “Mancheon Myeongwol: King Jeongjo’s Dream, Becoming Light,” and will launch a new season in 2026 titled “Saebit Dongrak (Sharing Joy): Suwon Hwaseong, Blooming with Light,” with the theme “Welcoming guests with [Saebit] and enjoying the night at Suwon Hwaseong together with [Dongrak].” This nighttime festival features large-scale media art installations that use vibrant lights to depict the stories of people spanning from the construction of the World Heritage Site “Suwon Hwaseong” to the present day. It offers a 18-day program—combining light, video, and combined with light and video displays in the Hwaseomun area, as well as various experiential and interactive media art installations at Jang-an Park, the 18-day event offers tourists a wealth of sights and activities to enjoy.
Program
1. Hwaseomun Media Art: 35-minute performance, 3 times daily (7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m., 9:30 p.m.) 2. Jangan Park Plaza: Audience-responsive interactive media art, landscape lighting featuring trees and shrubs, bubble light show, interactive playground, etc. 3. Jangan Gate Media Art: 360-degree immersive media art installation 4. Side Events: Local collaboration programs (flea market), Suwon Skewer Festa booths, global IP pop-up stores, etc.
