About
Eight happy days spent with the people—a festival for the citizens is coming. The grandest festival in Joseon history and a journey shared by the people and their virtuous king! In 2026, we will retrace the route of King Jeongjo’s royal procession to reflect on his intentions as recorded in the *Wonhaeng-eui Myojeong-ri Uigwe*. In 1795, King Jeongjo traveled to Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon to celebrate the 60th birthday of his mother, Lady Hong of Hye Gyeong Palace. King Jeongjo’s eight-day journey was not merely a royal procession but a historic event in which he shared joyful memories with his people. King Jeongjo’s spirit of compassion for his people was captured in the *Wonhaeng-eui Myojeong-ri Uigwe* and widely disseminated. In 2026, we will carry on the spirit of King Jeongjo, transforming the people’s happy memories into happy memories for today’s citizens. The Joint Reenactment of King Jeongjo’s Royal Procession is a festival organized through the collaboration of Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, Suwon, and Hwaseong, which magnificently recreates the original “Hwaseong Royal Procession of the Year of Eulmyo” for the modern era.
