Gunsan Time Travel Festival

Set against the backdrop of modern Gunsan—a city that preserves the history of the people’s resistance and their struggles for survival during the Japanese colonial period—the Gunsan Time Travel Festival is the city’s flagship event, allowing visitors to experience firsthand the stories and culture of various eras as they journey through Gunsan’s past, present, and future. This year, the festival will feature an even richer lineup of programs where citizens and tourists can take center stage, participate directly, and enjoy the festivities. Highlights include the “Global Modern Flash Mob,” created together by citizens; “Let’s All Shout ‘Manse’ on March 5,” which recreates the streets filled with shouts of “Manse”; and the “Gunsan Port Night Pier Contest,” where visitors can showcase their talent and enthusiasm. Additionally, there will be the “1919 Taegeukgi Raising Operation,” “Showdown! Defend the Declaration of Independence,” and “Try Being an Independence Fighter”—all designed to let visitors experience the history of modern Gunsan and the independence movement in an easy and fun way. In addition, mission-based and hands-on programs—such as “The Time Traveler’s Secret Passport,” “Gather, Gather Time,” and “Take It! Public Phone Mission”—as well as modern costume try-ons, citizen-planned programs, a flea market, food stalls, and performances will take place throughout the festival grounds. Through a diverse array of content that blends memories from different generations with new joys, the festival is designed so that everyone—young and old—can naturally engage with Gunsan’s history and culture and enjoy their own special journey through time.
