About
The Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) is hosting the “DDP Architecture Tour,” centered around spaces for dreaming (Dream), creating (Design), and enjoying (Play). This program allows participants to explore the history and significance of the Dongdaemun area, where the DDP is located, alongside a tour guide, with a focus on the building designed by Zaha Hadid. The tour runs regularly from Tuesday through Sunday, but is closed every Monday, as well as on New Year’s Day, Lunar New Year’s Day, and Chuseok. Tour times are 10:30 a.m. (Korean), 1:30 p.m. (English), and 3:30 p.m. (Korean). The tour departs from the Tour Desk on the first floor of the DDP Museum and lasts approximately 60 minutes. Participants must be at least 13 years old (middle school students); those under 13 must be accompanied by a guardian. You can participate by making an online reservation or registering on-site. Online reservations can be made through the DDP website (https://ddp.or.kr/?menuno=797), and on-site registration is available starting 10 minutes before the tour begins, subject to availability.

▼ DDP Architectural Tour Itinerary (Based on the 60-minute standard tour) 1. Tour Desk: Provides an introduction to the history of the DDP site and architect Zaha Hadid. 2. Eoullim Plaza: Explains the historical background, including the Ancient Relics Exhibition Hall, and describes the unique floating architectural structure and space frame design. 3. Palgeori: Explains the connection between Dongdaemun and the surrounding area, as well as the space’s functionality. 4. Igan Water Gate: Explains the restoration of the Joseon Dynasty-era water gate on Cheonggyecheon Stream. 5. Hanyang Fortress Wall/Lighting Tower: Explains the history and role of the fortress wall, as well as the historic lighting tower and memorial hall at Dongdaemun Stadium. 6. Exterior Panels: Explains the aluminum panels on the DDP’s exterior and the manufacturing process. 7. Grass Hill: Explains the succulent plants and eco-friendly elements. 8. Design Lab: Explains the children’s play area and the interior structure. 9. Sculptural Staircase: Explains the design and technology behind the spiral sculptural staircase. 10. Design Trail: Explains the structure and uses of the trail. 11. Future Bridge: Explains that it serves as a bridge connecting the past and the present. 12. Tour Desk: Concludes the tour and provides guidance. [Participation Information] - Tours are operated only at designated times; joining the tour midway is not possible.
